Charleston, South Carolina had been at the top of my travel bucket list for quite some time so when my husband suggested we head up there for a long weekend I was all for it! One of his best friends moved there recently so we had a great time catching up with him and his girlfriend. We all lived in Vegas at one point, but then went our separate ways thanks to Air Force assignments. Even though it sucks moving away from your friends it’s nice that you now have an excuse to visit other amazing cities! We only had two full days in Charleston, so I wasn’t able to visit as many restaurants as I would have liked, but we did fit a lot in!
On our first full day we took a private tour to a brewery, winery and distillery. Transportation was included so it was nice that we didn’t have to worry about drinking and driving. Our first stop was Deep Water Vineyards where we sampled about 6 wines. The pours were a little smaller than I would have liked haha. Each pour was bout 3 sips, so when all is said and done you maybe got one glass of wine, if that. They were pretty good though and we ended up buying a Riseling for his mom since that’s her favorite.
Firefly Distillery is on the same property, so we went there next. This was the tasting I was least excited about since I don’t like hard alcohol by itself, but it ended up being my favorite stop of the tour! Probably because I picked the ones that were super flavorful and sugary. The salted caramel and apple pie moonshine was really good and we also liked the lemonade vodka.
Before checking out the brewery, our driver took us to Angel Oak Tree. It’s a huge tree that’s about 500 years old. The photos don’t do it justice, but it’s pretty impressive when you’re standing under it. After taking a few photos we continued on to Low Tide Brewing. We each got a flight, so we were able to try multiple beers. My favorite was a lemon ginger Hefeweizen. At the end of these tastings you also get to keep the cups as souvenirs, so we went home with quite a few glasses. It was really fun, but not really worth the price since an Uber might be cheaper depending on where you’re staying. Here is the company we used though if you’re interested.
For dinner that evening we went to 492 on King Street. It was restaurant week while we were there, so we took advantage of the three-course menu. I ordered the scallops as a starter, which were really good! For the main course I had the coulotte (I had never heard of it, apparently it’s a cut of beef). It was okay, the charred carrots and black truffle on the side was my favorite part of the dish. The Chocolate Budino we had for dessert though was So. Good. It was basically a rich, decadent chocolate mousse (insert praise hands emoji!).
On our second and final day we saw all of the tourist attractions. The waterfront is really pretty and the pineapple fountain is definitely Instagram-worthy. Rainbow Row was also cool to see, but there are so many other gorgeous and colorful buildings around town, too. And don’t even get me started on all of the pink walls! They are a blogger’s dream! After that we walked along King Street and did some shopping. Last, but not least was lunch at Taco Boy. Their delicious tacos hit the spot after walking around all day! Charleston is such a fun city and I can’t wait to visit again!
