5 Tips For Keeping Cool This Summer

This post has been sponsored by Coffee-mate. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This summer weather has been no joke. We had a week straight with highs of 110 degrees or more. Having lived in Las Vegas now for more than four years now, I’m used to scorching temperatures and I don’t plan on saying goodbye to them anytime soon since we are moving to Florida this month. Unfortunately the coat collection I acquired throughout my 23 years in Seattle will continue to gather dust :( I’m not a heat person by any means, so living here has been an adjustment. I have finally figured out my favorite ways or keeping cool during the summer other than just sitting in our air-conditioned house, so hopefully these ideas will help you, too!

Curate a closet full of sundresses. When it’s crazy hot easy, breezy sundresses are a must! They are easy to throw on in the morning and look stylish without putting much thought into your ensemble. Pair them with some comfy sandals and you’re good to go! I need to add some more to my wardrobe since the humidity in Florida makes everything feel sticky. Goodbye, tight shorts and jeans!

Have iced coffee on hand. I try to only run errands in the evening when it’s dark and a “cool” 90 degrees, but if I’m out and about during the day I usually come home pretty thangry—thirsty and angry is definitely a thing, just like being “hangry.” Having a ready-to-drink iced coffee waiting for me in the fridge is a life saver! I can easily cool down and recharge. I really like the Coffee-mate® Natural Bliss® Carmel Flavored Ice Coffee because the rich, medium roast coffee is blended with buttery caramel and real milk and cream. Plus, it’s all natural and made with responsibly sourced coffee and ingredients. I usually pick some up in the refrigerated drink aisle when I’m at the grocery store on the weekend and then sip on it throughout the week. It’s only available on the west coast, so click here to see if it’s available at a store near you!

Take a workout class. I know what you’re thinking, how does this cool you down? Well, you might get hot and sweaty during the class but at least the gym is air-conditioned! This is a win-win because you are doing something good for your body while also taking advantage of the AC! That first wind of cold air feels so good as you walk through the door. I like going to yoga and pilates classes, but kickboxing has also helped me get into summer shape.

Go window shopping at an indoor mall. Another place where you can take advantage of the AC! I swear malls make it even colder in the summer so that you start to buy the new fall arrivals. When I’m in a cold store, I’m much more likely to try on (and buy) the cute sweaters I won’t be able to wear for months! However, even if you don’t want to spend any money it’s nice to stroll up and down the mall and check out the new trends or do some people watching. I definitely see a lot of interesting folks at our mall here in Las Vegas!

Make your own popsicles. During the summer I basically just want to eat fruit and popsicles. For some reason baking a casserole or stir frying vegetables doesn’t sound all that appetizing. I hope you caught the sarcasm there, it’s not appetizing because it’s way too hot to be cooking warm foods! For summer snacks and desserts I enjoy making my own popsicles, like these healthy Greek yogurt and berry ones. I’ve also made popsicles with the Coffee-mate ice coffee that I was talking about in tip #2. Just pour it into the molds and once they are frozen you can drizzle it with chocolate and sprinkle with hazelnuts. I’ll be sharing the full recipe in an upcoming post!
