My parents and sister are currently visiting from Seattle, so we’ve had a fun/busy week! We’ve enjoyed showing them around our new home and also taking them on a road trip to Mississippi. They had never been to the south before this trip, so they enjoyed crossing a few states off of their bucket list and seeing the difference in landscape, culture, etc. On Friday night we saw Jake Owen at Harrah’s Gulf Coast. It was outside on The Great Lawn, which was right along the water. We couldn’t see much of the view since it was dark, but there were a lot of boats that anchored nearby to listen in on the concert. It was cool to see this venue because when I worked at Caesars Entertainment in Vegas, this was one of the properties that I worked with quite often. I never thought I would actually go there! If you had told me a year ago I would be living in Florida and spending my birthday in Mississippi I thought you’d be crazy. Well, I guess not too crazy since military moves are so unpredictable, but having grown up in Seattle this part of the country seemed worlds away.
Before the concert we had dinner at Cora’s inside White House Hotel. The grounds, architecture and decor at this hotel are GORGEOUS! It’s very photo-worthy and I was all set to take some outfit photos until I realized I left my SD card at home. Ugh. Luckily we still got some good shots on my iPhone, hence this post. We had an amazing dinner at Cora’s, complete with crab cakes, bourbon sweet potatoes, shrimp & grits, fried green tomatoes and more. Their handcrafted cocktails were also top notch. I ordered the princess martini because, duh, it was my birthday. Even though it was the name that caught my eye this watermelon-flavored drink also tasted great.
Since the hotel and restaurant were really nice I was excited to have an excuse to dress up! It’s still warm here in October so I wore a suede mini skirt with a blush choker tank. Since this top has a pretty busy neckline, I decided to accessories with statement earrings rather than a necklace. These embellished hoop earrings are from BaubleBar’s SUGARFIX line at Target (only $13!). The collection is affordable and right on trend! I love the chic color palette of this pair and the pink complements this outfit perfectly! Blush and burgundy is one of my favorite color combinations for fall (or any time of year for that matter). Since these colors are from the same family they work really well together.
