How To Find Designer Dupes on a Budget

Who doesn’t like good designer dupes? I’m all about finding pieces that look expensive, but don’t actually break the bank. When I saw this pair of black and tan shoes at Zara I instantly thought of the Chanel cap-toe flats. But how much better does $39.99 sound compared to almost $1,000? You can buy A LOT with the money saved, but still get the designer look. When it comes to finding knockoffs of your favorite high-end fashion labels, it’s all about being patient and keeping your eyes open. Sure these shoes don’t have the same interlocking C’s on the toes as the Chanel pair, but from afar no one will really notice (or care for that matter…) and they will still look super chic! It’s funny how I cared so much more about designer logos and brandmarks when I was in high school and college. I wanted to have the lululemon leggings with the logo where people could see it, the signature 7 for All Mankind pockets on my jeans and Juicy Couture written on my purse. Now I couldn’t care less about that, except for the fact that you sometimes do get what you pay for when it comes to quality. I have good luck finding designer dupes at stores such as Old Navy, Topshop, ZARA and Nordstrom (in the non-designer sections, obviously). Shoes and handbags are the most common items to find. This clutch from BP was only $25 and looks almost exactly like the Clare V. foldover clutch, which is priced at $235. I also love my cognac crossbody bag with a tassel that is similar to the Gucci style. And who else has been lusting over the Stuart Weitzman over the knee boots since last fall? Since I couldn’t bring myself to sped $800 on a trendy style, I found an Ivanka Trump pair from Nordstrom that I’ve been loving (also similar here for $149). Just keep your eyes open because copycat versions are out there! It can be frustrating to see your favorite bloggers or Instagrammers constantly wearing designer duds that don’t work with your income or financial priorities. I’m guilty of comparing myself and wishing I could afford those things, too, but I enjoy the challenge and satisfaction of finding similar pieces for less.

If there is a specific item you know you want, Google is your best friend. I have searched things like “Chloe ‘Drew’ Bag Copycat” to find a cheaper version, or you might find a site that sells it used for a lower price. If you do want the real designer item you could also try apps like Poshmark where people sell their gently used items for up to 70% off retail. And last, but not least: be patient and keep your eye out for sales. Sites like Shopbop will sometimes have sales where you can score a decent discount on your coveted designer items.
