Crafting and shopping are what I loved most about wedding planning. For my bridesmaids gifts, I gave them each a necklace and earrings to wear with their dress on the big day. I shopped around for a while to find pieces that would fit with each girl’s personal style, but also look cohesive when they were all standing next to each other. I ended up with a fun assortment of necklaces that had blush and gold tones (picture of my beautiful bridesmaids and their necklaces below!). To wrap them, I wanted something that would match the jewelry and wedding décor. That’s when I decided DIY gift bags were in order.
I found these muslin bags at the Container Store and then used some fabric paint and glitter to decorate them. Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to make them for your next present-giving occasion! I want to use a different stencil/color to make some Christmas gift bags!
DIY Gift Bags
Supplies
- muslin bag
- painter’s tape
- gold fabric paint
- paint brush
- mod podge
- gold glitter
- pink fabric paint
- heart stencil
How-To:
- Use painter’s tape to block off the bottom section that will be painted gold. I taped it about 3 inches up from the bottom. Press down firmly to make sure the tape is on nice and tight so that paint won’t bleed below it. Use a foam brush to apply the fabric paint. Let dry.
- Coat the painted area with a layer of Mod Podge. Sprinkle glitter on top and shake excess onto a paper plate (this makes it easier to pour back into the container so you don’t waste it). Let dry, then remove tape.
- Next, tape the desired stencil to the bag so that the shape is in the center. Use a foam brush and fabric paint to fill in the open space. I used a light pink color to create the heart. Remove and let dry.
OMG this is such a brilliant idea. Loved the cute heart as well as the glitter! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! It was such an easy project and came out exactly as I had pictured them!
