If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you know that I grew up in Seattle, but moved to Las Vegas three years ago because of my husband’s job. As much as I miss the blue water, green trees and rainy days, there are a lot of things I’ve come to enjoy about living in Nevada. Most people automatically picture the Las Vegas Strip when they think of Nevada, but the surrounding areas are just as diverse and exciting without the crowded, touristy feel. One of my favorite neighborhoods is Downtown Las Vegas (aka “Old Vegas” or Fremont), which boasts a variety of chic restaurants, fantastic street art and an annual music/culinary/art festival called Life Is Beautiful. I think this modern, urban part of the city influences my style the most because it’s casual, yet trendy. The creative vibes and innovative atmosphere inspire me to think outside of the box when it comes to fashion. You would think my closet would be full of tight, sequined dresses and sky-high heels since we live in the land of clubs and DJs, but that’s the complete opposite of my feminine, conservative style.

Although it’s still really warm here, I’ve had fall fashion on my mind for a while now and try to make seasonal pieces work in 90-degree weather. When it comes to creating a fall outfit, I usually start with a pair of skinny jeans and build on from there. I had never tried Old Navy denim before and I was really impressed by how well the Rockstar style fits! They are so soft and have the perfect amount of stretch, plus the mid-rise is exactly where I want it to be. This wash caught my eye because it’s pretty casual, but since they aren’t distressed I can still wear them to work. To dress them up I added pointy-toe flats and an airy blouse. The lace and slightly belled sleeves on this top were calling my name!
One item that you should definitely add into your closet this fall (if you haven’t already) is a utility jacket. It’s a very versatile piece that will blend in seamlessly with your existing wardrobe! How cute would it look over a striped sweater or floral dress with some heeled booties?! Living in the desert has taught me to embrace light layers. It rarely gets cold enough for heavy coats, so this lightweight jacket is perfect year-round (except when it’s 115 degrees in the summer). Layering it over feminine pieces, like this dainty top, creates a fun juxtaposition since it has more of a masculine feel. I’m all about unexpected pairings because it’s an easy way to create a fashion-forward look.
I wore this outfit to get brunch with my husband at one of our favorite restaurants downtown called Eat. The stylish breakfast and lunch spot has a relaxed, down-to-earth vibe with amazing food! I wanted to wear something casual, yet stylish and I think the simplicity of this outfit with the addition of fun details (lace on the shirt, pop of leopard, etc.) accomplished that. After breakfast we walked around Container Park, which has quite a few locally owned boutiques. I also love checking out the street art since there is something new up every time we come here. When you live somewhere that’s so unique and creative, it’s hard not to let that influence your style!
