Fall Fashion Trends 2015

As soon as the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale arrives, I am completely over summer. I’m ready to wear cozy scarves, oversized sweaters and skinny jeans with boots. The first day of the sale makes me feel like a kid on Christmas morning getting to see all of their new presents! It’s is a great forecast of the styles to come for my favorite season and the perfect time to stock up! I had a blast checking out the sale items at Mall of America and can’t wait to incorporate these new pieces into my wardrobe. I’ve listed some popular trends below to help you update your autumn wardrobe. In addition to the basics, it looks like some overall trends include retro (think ‘70s) and New West (think fringe, suede, earthy-colored patterns). Happy shopping :)

CLOTHES

sweaters

Long Sweaters and Ponchos. Cozy sweaters are a must-have for the cooler seasons. There are a lot of “throw and go” cardigans and ponchos on the racks this year, which are perfect for tossing over lighter layers. These open sweaters and jackets come in a variety of soft textures and popular prints (like Aztec). Just as midi skirts were popular for spring, midi sweaters are all over for fall! The long and lean look is perfect for pairing with skinny jeans and booties.

Pants: Culottes, Rompers and Jumpsuits. This is one trend that I’ve had a harder time jumping on the bandwagon. I like rompers for summer, but I always feel funny in long-pant jumpsuits. One of the best I’ve seen though is from the Cupcakes and Cashmere line. It makes me rethink the style and want to give it a try. Culottes are one trend that I’m just saying flat out no to. The cropped, wide-leg look isn’t really my thing.

jeans

Denim. The Nordstrom sale is the perfect time of year for stocking up on denim. Styles this season range from baggy, distressed boyfriend to dark, sleek skinnies. I love these AG skinny jeans, which are $75 off!

coats

Coats. My favorite jacket right now is the military/utilitarian style. The olive green color goes with everything, plus it’s fun to pair the masculine pieces with feminine styles for a fun juxtaposition. I also love the mixed-textured coats that combine different fabrics like tweed and leather. Faux fur is also popular again, in addition to the wrap style and plaid patterns.

SHOES

Boots. My favorite part of fall! It looks like everything from tall and sleek to short and rocker-chic are currently in style. I’m also a fan of the suede booties with fringe accents for a Southwestern vibe—they go perfect with skinny jeans and Aztec-print sweaters! My must-have is a pair of tall, cognac leather boots. I usually have to buy a new pair every year because I wear them to death.

flats

Fancy Flats. I’m excited that dressy flats are popular for fall because I’m not much of a heels person. When I saw that my favorite studded T-strap pair was on sale, I knew I needed to buy them in a second color. I had been debating about getting the blush color anyways, so when I saw that they were $30 off, I figured it was a sign to go for it! I’m also on the hunt for the perfect pair of black lace-up flats.

HANDBAGS

purses

Bucket bags. These seem like a nice cross between a tote and a cross-body bag. The longer strap makes it hands-free while the bucket shape allows you to fit a lot of your daily necessities in there. They are great for casual, day-to-day wear.

Backpacks. Think nice leather, not Jansport or The North Face. This is a trend I have yet to try, but I really like the cognac-colored one that’s currently on sale. I like the look of them, but when I try them on at the store I feel like I should be walking to class or something.

Cross Body. I don’t foresee this wardrobe staple going out of style anytime soon—they are just so convenient! The hands-free purse is so cute in a quilted pattern with a chain strap.

JEWELRY

accessories

Ear Candy. When it comes to earrings, I only have a couple pairs of studs that I rotate in and out. However, I’m excited to try some of the ear jackets that go behind and in front of your ear. It adds some interest without having over-the-top hoops and dangly earrings that are super heavy. BaubleBar has some of my favorite pieces.

Layers. When it comes to layering necklaces, the key is so have a few dainty pieces of varying lengths. As for bracelets, it’ fun to mix different metals and play around with the widths. I like to pair my rose gold watch with thin, gold bracelets.
