Have you guys tried firework Oreos?! When they first came out in 2017 I thought they sounded strange and gimmicky, but one bite changed my mind! They are the classic cookies we all know and love with an added sparkling sensation. My husband and I rarely buy packaged cookies, but we bought a couple boxes of these when we saw that they are available again this summer. We checked a few stores and finally found them at our second-closest Target (totally worth hunting them down!). For a fun 4th of July treat I decided to use them to make cookies ‘n’ cream cupcakes. I’ll be honest, the cake part of the cupcakes were just okay. Since I didn’t want to waste any more of the cookies developing the perfect recipe, I decided to just share the buttercream recipe with you because it was delicious! You could use it to top brownies, chocolate cake, vanilla cupcakes… the options are endless! It’s sweet, creamy and still maintains some of the sparkling sensation (although it’s less noticeable than eating the cookie straight). If you want to pipe it onto cupcakes be sure that the tip is pretty wide otherwise the cookie chunks will block it. Also, I found these cute stars and stripes cupcake liners at Williams-Sonoma. They are so perfect for patriotic party treats!
