Ever since I moved away from Seattle my opportunities to wear scarves have greatly diminished. Sometimes Vegas got cold enough for them and Destin had a cold snap with temps in the 30s, but for the most part I only wear them on winter vacations. I miss being able to toss on a scarf though because it’s such a simple accessory that adds so much to an outfit. Instead of cozy blanket scarves I’ve opted for square scarves and bandanas. Madewell has an amazing selection and I’m always tempted to buy the newest pattern or color. I currently have the olive color and recently picked up this pretty spiced rose shade. They sell two different kinds of bandanas: cotton and silk. Both are soft and easy to style, unlike some bandanas I’ve tried that are way too stiff and lay awkwardly. Since they are lightweight they can be worn year-round even in warm climates. I first decided to give them a try because one of my favorite bloggers, Olivia from Livvy Land, always makes them look so cute! Her style is way cooler than mine so I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to pull it off, but I’m glad I gave it a shot because they make any outfit look much more pulled together. Plus they are very versatile and could be worn around your neck multiple ways, tied to a tote or used as a ponytail holder/headband.
I typically tie my Madewell bandana in a loose double knot around my neck. I’m definitely not a pro at tying these and it looks slightly different each time, but this seems to work well for me. It adds the perfect pop of color to any outfit, even jeans and a T-shirt. I typically like to style them with a third piece, like a dress + jacket or top + vest. You can definitely wear it without another layer, but for some reason it looks more complete with this combination. The olive jacket in this outfit is one of my staples from Old Navy. They just came out with a pretty blush color, too, which is so cute for spring. It’s under $50 and typically even less since they always have sales.
