30-Day No Shopping Challenge

Welcome back! I hope you all had a great holiday season and wonderful start to the new year! Rob and I had a great time in Wyoming where we got to see some snow, spend time with his family and relax by the fire (you can see more from our trip in this YouTube video). It was a great getaway and now I’m ready to tackle my goals for 2018! After a season full of gift giving, shopping and sales I want to start the new year with something a little different: a 30-day no shopping challenge! Since my blog was having technical difficulties I started this challenge on Instagram January 2nd.

I know what you’re thinking. A fashion blogger encouraging me not to shop?! It might sound crazy since part of my income relies on you purchasing items through affiliate links, but being real with you guys is more important to me. I don’t wear new clothes every day. Some days I don’t even get out of my fleece reindeer pants that I wear even when it’s not Christmas. I’m not able to spend hundreds or dollars at Nordstrom every month so that I can post a new #ootd on Instagram. Some of my favorite items in my closet are pieces I’ve had for years. The grey cardigan in this post? I got it at Urban Outfitters in college so it’s probably 8 years old, but it’s still something I wear an a regular basis.

Here’s how it will work. During this 30-day no shopping challenge I want to encourage you to remix the items you already own. Every Tuesday in January I will give you a new styling tip to try. So for the next five weeks, stay tuned for ways to make your closet staples feel new again! I will be participating in this challenge, too, so you can check out my Daily Outfits highlight on Instagram (@jamiekamber) to see even more ideas. I also want to see your outfits so tag them with #TTnoshopping and I’ll share some of them on my Instagram stories!

My first challenge for you is to create a look with your favorite neutral pieces. My go-to formula for an everyday outfit is a cami, cardigan, skinny jeans and flats. A white cami is one of the most versatile pieces you can own. It can be worn under a variety of cardigans and jackets or by itself tucked into jeans or a skirt. When i’m staring at my closet feeling like I have nothing to wear in the morning it’s the first thing I throw on and then I build my outfit from there. On cooler days I always grab a cozy cardigan or moto jacket next. Like I was saying above this cardigan is SO old, but the simple style and neutral color make it an item that I can wear for years to come. You can also check out this post to see how I styled it over a plaid shirt. With a wardrobe full of basics you’re able to create stylish looks with pieces you already own.
