Clearly I’ve been on a cookie kick lately. Last week I shared these Valentine’s Day sugar cookie and I used the same recipe (from Jenny Cookies) to make these gold medal cookies! Anyone else excited for the Winter Olympics to start next week?! The women’s figure skating is my favorite event. Tara Lipinski was my idol back in the day! I even follow her on Instagram currently, she’s just the cutest! The skeleton, bobsled and skiing events are fun to watch, too. It’s crazy how fast they go. If you plan on having a party for the opening ceremonies, these cookies are perfect!
To make these gold medal sugar cookies, make one batch of this cookie recipe and a half batch of the buttercream. For the gold frosting I used Wilton Buttercup Yellow gel food coloring. Start with a small amount and work your way up to the desired color. Once you add too much there’s no going back! When you get the desired shade of gold, transfer to a piping bag fitted with the Wilton #4 decorating tip. Make a circle with the buttercream to outline the medal. This part is easier said than done—I do not have the steadiest hand! Then starting at the top make lines going side to side, working your way down until the entire circle is filled. Next, pipe the number “1” in the middle. Sprinkle with some gold sprinkles or decorating dust a voilà! I didn’t actually attach the red, white and blue ribbon to the cookie, although you could probably cut a small hole or slit before frosting to loop it through. However, I just placed the cookies on top for the photos and you could do the same to serve them on a tray for a party. Enjoy!
