It’s rare when Rob and I have the same weekend, so we took advantage of our time together and did some exploring around Las Vegas recently. I like finding places that are little getaways from the desert, so when I read about Spring Mountain Ranch State Park I was excited to check it out since there are trails, a lake and a grassy pasture. With my camera and a picnic lunch in hand, we drove west of the Vegas valley where there’s nothing but red rocks, mountains and outdoorsy people. We first checked out the old ranch house and learned a little bit about the park’s history. Then, we walked the trail around Lake Harriet (which is more like a large pond, but a nice break from the brown, sandy landscape that we are used to!). We went right as the sun was setting, so the lighting was perfect for taking some photos! After seeing the sights, we found a picnic table in the park to eat our leftover Café Rio salads. Romantic, right? Cheese and wine probably would have been more fitting, but those salads are SO good. Anyways, I would definitely recommend this to Vegas locals and visitors who are looking for a little nature oasis :)
