Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays because we get to spend it surrounded by family or friends and eating amazing food. As I’ve gotten older Thanksgivings have changed a lot. When I lived in Washington this holiday was very predictable. My family and I would spend it with my mom’s side of the family one year and then my dad’s the following year. We always dressed up nicely since it’s a festive occasion, but we just went to my grandparents’ house so nothing too fancy. Now I’m married and live on the other side of the country. Rob and I haven’t established any Thanksgiving traditions of our own yet because our holiday varies from year to year. One year he had to work so we had a potluck-style Thanksgiving on base; another year Rob was on assignment in Washington DC for two month so I flew home to spend it in Seattle with my family; and we have also had a few friendsgivings (which is this year’s plan, too). I don’t mind this lack of tradition, though, because I’m just thankful to have amazing friends and family! No matter how we spend it I can always count on that!
OUTFIT DETAILS
Blouse c/o Banana Republic | Skirt (under $100 and also comes in a gorgeous “spice” color) | Tights (only $6!) | Boots c/o Banana Republic | Earrings (come in 4 colors) | Watch (cheaper version here) | Purse, similar
If your plans call for a dressy Thanksgiving outfit, there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, comfort is key! Don’t wear anything too tight because it will only feel tighter as the night goes on. This suede mini skirt is really comfortable since it doesn’t squeeze my hips and stomach! Plus the purple/burgundy color is one of my favorite hues for fall and it looks really nice styled with black tights (I prefer a somewhat sheer style). To keep the bottom half of this outfit simple and streamlined, I added a pair of black Chelsea boots from Banana Republic. The quality is amazing and they also come in a gorgeous burgundy color. I worry about ordering shoes online (unfortunately we don’t have a Banana Republic in Destin), but these boots fit true to size and are super comfortable! The scalloped edge is a fun, girly detail, too!
When planning your Thanksgiving outfit, it’s also important to keep in mind who will be attending the dinner. You don’t want to show too much skin with your grandparents or conservative family members around! This plaid blouse would be a great option because it’s stylish and doesn’t show any cleavage. The tie-neck gives the outfit a feminine look, while the metallic stripes keep it modern and festive! It fits true to size (I’m wearing a small) and can be worn multiple ways. How cute would it look with some office-appropriate pants for work? Or with high-waisted jeans for date night! Since the neckline on this top wouldn’t work with a necklace, I accessorized with some simple earrings (this rose gold pair which I wear almost every day!). This outfit is proof that conservative doesn’t have to be boring :)
P.S. Here is another dressy Thanksgiving outfit idea! Obviously I have a thing for plaid haha

Aw sad! I don’t have one nearby either, but I’ve had pretty good luck shopping online. The sizes are pretty consistent and true to size :)
