White Chocolate Chip Brown Butter Blondies

blondies-recipe

I’ve been on a major brown butter kick when it comes to baking (like this banana bread). It just makes everything better and gives it a unique, nutty taste. A few nights ago I got the urge to bake and wanted to make something with ingredients I already had in the kitchen. I decided to use a classic blondie recipe, but updated it by browning the butter and adding white chocolate chips. They turned out to be very tasty and definitely satisfied my sweet tooth!

White Chocolate Chip Brown Butter Blondies
Yields 16 squares

Ingredients

  • 8 Tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup flour

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350F. Line an 8″ x 8″ baking pan with parchment paper, then set aside.
  2. In a medium-sized sauce pan over medium heat, melt the butter until browned. It will be a golden color and have a nutty aroma. Let it cool slightly before beginning step 2. If it’s too warm, the chocolate chips will melt.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the browned butter and brown sugar until combined. Add egg, both extracts and salt, then mix until smooth. Add flour and continue stirring until fully incorporated. Gently fold in white chocolate chips.
  4. Evenly pour batter into prepared baking pan. Bake for 20 – 25 minutes, until golden brown and the edges are set. A toothpick into the middle should come out clean. Let cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to wire rack. Enjoy!
