With Halloween behind us, we are officially well into fall. Not gonna lie, I’m pretty excited to start thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas! I try not to go overboard on Halloween decorations so that I don’t feel as guilty when I inevitably go Christmas crazy at Target this coming month! As much as I love October, I welcome November in Las Vegas because temperatures are finally under 80 degrees which means helloooo fall clothes! Sure there are days when I feel a little silly wearing a scarf or turtleneck when I’m surrounded by palm trees, but fall fashion is just the best and takes me back to my Seattle roots! Over the years, I’ve come to realize that there are several staples I wear every fall. They are neutrals and basics that don’t go out of style from one year to the next. I guess I might eventually look back at items like blanket scarves and think “why was a wearing a bedspread around my neck?!” but for now I’m going to embrace the coziness! These are 10 items that I think everyone needs in their fall wardrobe and pieces that are worth investing in since you’ll get a lot of use out of them.

Camel Cardigan or Coat. One color that will never go out of style is camel. It’s a luxe looking neutral that is perfect for the cooler months. This rich caramel shade is great for outerwear, such as a cozy cardigan or heavy parka. I scored this soft sweater pictured in this post from Old Navy and love how versatile it is (plus it’s under $50!). Here I paired it with a white eyelet tank and skinny jeans, finishing off the look with leopard flats.

Cognac-Colored Booties. I pretty much wore this Sam Edelman pair to death over the past couple years, so this year I was happy to find a similar pair for only $37 (shop them here)! They have the perfect heel height and are super comfortable (which a lot of the time cheap shoes aren’t). I wear them with everything from floral skirts to dark skinny jeans.

A Quality Pair of Dark Skinny Jeans. These are a must-have year-round, but I especially live in my dark skinny jeans during the cooler months. They are a great foundation to a casual or dressy outfit, plus the sleek shape balances out the oversized tops I love to wear this time of year. When I’m getting dressed in the morning I usually start with these Joe’s jeans as a solid foundation and work my way up from there.

Utility Jacket. Fall is all about light layers, so a utility jacket is a must! They typically come in an olive green color, which is a great neutral. I wear mine over everything from feminine dresses to plaid flannels. A vest is also a great option, especially if you live in a warmer climate.

Blanket Scarf. I always see blanket scarves popping up all over Instagram this time of year, but they aren’t very practical when you live in Las Vegas. I still like to stock up on them though for weekend trips to Mammoth or Big Bear. Windowpane and plaid are perfect patterns for this time of year.

Plaid or Gingham Button-Up. I added a couple more plaid button-ups to my closet this year because they are an imperative part of my everyday wardrobe. I’m lucky that I get to wear jeans to the office, so I usually pair them with a button-up blouse and booties in the fall. They are also great for layering under sweaters or utility jackets.

White Blouse. There’s something about a crisp white blouse that I can’t get enough of! It’s so simple, yet so chic! I especially love ones with bell sleeves this year. And I probably sound like a broken record, but it’s so versatile. Yes, versatility is very important when creating a well-rounded, stylish wardrobe! The more ways you can style an item the better.

Quilted Vest. This is one item I haven’t purchased yet, but every year I eye the selection of classic vests at J.Crew. They look so cute styled over a plaid shirt with a pair of jeans and duck boots. I love how Grace from A Southern Drawl styles hers.

Striped Sweater. Whether you prefer oversized and knit or more form-fitting with a simple crew neck, this is a must-have layering piece. Some of my favorite “PInterest outfits” are the simplest and almost all of them involve stripes! A striped sweater looks so classic with other fall neutrals, such as the utility jacket and cognac booties mentioned above.

Denim Jacket or Chambray Shirt. Here is another item that I wear 12 months out of the year, even when it’s 115 degrees outside. You can wear it over a dress, layered under a sweater or tied around your waist—the options are endless! I always bring it when I travel because it goes with everything.
